Hair Relaxer for Guys?

Well, I'll be straightforward with this.

My hair grows out to be a somewhat Afro/Frizz type of hairstyle and that I don't want it to grow an afro but rather long. My hair is thick and it does have its length but once it keeps growing, one after the other tops it forming a damn afro!

So I heard that chemical/hair relaxers will help me out. But really will it? I mean the word "chemical" is in there and I don't want to lose my hair... I have never tried it and I am willing to only if I get your opinion on what I should do with my hair (especially the girls - they're pros).

Yes, we are pros. haha I woudnt recommend you getting a relaxer...because after years of using it...many people have commented that their hair was thinning, and they had started seeing bald spots. also, if you ever wanna go back to your regular hair...you will have to grow the straight hair out..and you will looks weird, cuz u will afro hair at the roots and straight hair at the bottom..and your hair will break and tear and be quite fragile..thats why so many women are on here asking for the best way to do their hair when they are trying to go natural after having a relaxer in it... Just straighten your hair...or go and get it pressed or something. and when the salon does it...it should stay straight for like a week. not many men go into hair salons...and if you do..it may feel kinda weird...you know? but it will work..and they will come to like you...and you will like them too. so yeah.

I wouldnt recommend the relaxer..they are damaging...and makes your fragile and ready to break when you want your old hair back. and when a relaxer is in...it causes your hair to be thin... and you start to notice small bald spot that can become big ones.

Just as many men use relaxers on their hair as women. It is not at all unusual.

There are many types of relaxers on the market. In our salon we use Dudley's. They make a non-lye relaxer and they make it three different strengths. Some people require more relaxing, and others less. You won't know until you do it for the first time.

This is not something you can or should do yourself, especially the first few times. If not done correctly you run the risk of ruining your hair, or worse, burning your scalp. Have a professional do it.

If your hair is long enough and meets other criteria, there is also the possibility of 'Japanese Hair Straightening.' This is a long and expensive process, but yields better results than relaxers, and lasts in the area of six months before you have enough outgrowth that a new application will be required.

don't relax it use Just For Kids texturizer..put it in your hair starting at the area that is textured and frizzy the most...and don't comb it through so much that will make it straight..just use small parts and put it on using hairbrush applicator(the ones at sallys for hairdye)...it will loosen your curl texturer without harsh chemicals

I have really frizzy and curly hair. It is more frizzy than normal because I died it at home and then fried it with a straight iron. I had my friend who is a hair dresser take the alful color out and cut all my dead ends out. she gave me a cute cut but my hair is so frizzy I don't know what to do with it. I like my hair to be wavy or straight but I don't know how to without killing it. I have a really good straight iron but I don't know what I should use on my hair to protect it. Try Garnier Fructis sleek and shine or the one for curls. I think its the green one. Good Luck. I use both.

use a thermal iron protectant...loreal makes a good one and u can get it at sally's...then use ur flat iron

Again, I would go to Sally Beauty supply and go to the Ethnic section as they carry some wonderful anti-frizz products and conditioners. Stop fighting the curly look for a while and give your hair a break. The heat is just drying your hair out....sounds like you need some conditioning treatments.

I am thinking about getting sewn in hair extensions for my wedding. I don't know yet if I want to wear my hair up or down but I have fine thin hair and I want to do something that will add something to my hair. I wish I had long hair. I was wondering if I could wear my hair up even with sewn in hair extensions and also we are going on our honeymoon I want to know if they will last and if they will still look okay once we get back. As long as you get quality hair extensions, you should be fine. Great quality hair extensions last up to at least 3 months, so you should be fine. You can wear hairstyles like you normall would, but you can't comb your hair, you have to use a special brush.

If you are caucasion with thin, fine hair i would say no, unless you want to spend an arm and a leg, and know someone who can do this without making you look crazy! If you really want it done depending on your hair type and where you get this done it may or may not last. I'd say do some research and asking around. It's your wedding, you want to look beautiful and be happy with your style!

Check some fashion magazines for ideas, or visit a beauty shop and look through their books/magazines. You could also ask them for assistance in a style for you. Ask to see an example before you let them start to cut.

You sound as if you'd look good with my haircut. My hair dresser just picked it out for me. You can have a longer version of the same cut. I have dark blonde hair and had it lightened with highlights and then had darker highlights put in the bottom of it to give it more of an "edge". You can see it on Myspace. going darker or add colors with temp rinses is better for your hair..

drastic usually means drastic cutting to get rid if you don't like it.

best to find hair and fashion mags at the library or beauty school and bring a pic with you to show what you'd like.

Try a blunt, straight-across bang and maybe layer it up a bit more. Also, to change your style without having to cut your hair, experiment! If you usually wear it curly, wear it straight, and vice versa. Pull it back, or part it a new way.

For colour, I'd say go dark.

I think I have the same style as you! I have VERY dark hair and I have a these awesome blonde lowlights and a chesnut highlite. First of all, is you hair straight? Highlights of dark hair look better if it's straight. I straighten my hair everyday, or use hair straightning shampoo. I sugguest keeping it long... I suggest having it dyed a nice goldenblonde with brown highlights!

i think u should have bangs, it woul d really shape ur face and ya, uummmmmmmm..... u could get some chopy layers, and that would thin out ur hair too so that is a double whammie! i think u should die ur hair a lighter brunette but not blonde cause then ur roots will look weird compared to ur hair, and a little bit of low lights (blonde).ooohhh! u will llooookkkk sssooo cute if u choose mine!

From how you described yourself, it sounds like Sandra Bullock might be a good style star for you. She has a square face and similar coloring. In this pic, her hair is long with lots of layers (which you could pull off since your hair is thick) and wavy. She also has very long bangs. As for color, if you want to make the most impact with your change I would recommend going dark. (I always think thick, dark hair is more striking than blonde, but then again I am biased! :) )

You should mix your hair color now with a color that is one color lighter than your hair color. Such as: mix light ash brown with a color one shade lighter, then put a shade or two darker underneath. You should get more choppy layers or even get razor cut layers--for more edgyness. You should go with bangs that can be swept to the side or even grow them out to become layers. ****THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, THOUGH is that you need to be comfortable with your hairstyle, so don't be afraid to take more time to think this one over...or if you like something one person says and something another says, you could meet them in the middle or try the one that seems less bold to see if it works and gradually move up. I think you will be amazed at how wonderful you will look, when you take time to plan it out! Good luck!!! Oh--and don't ever feel pressured...it is your hair and no one can tell you otherwise.

i have relaxed wavy hair and i blowdry and straighten my hair every morning. i use biolage shampoo %26amp; conditioner. my stylist gave me this organic stuff for after i straighten my hair, but even with that i find my hair having a lot of static. i have many weird caulics and then my hair has a bump that looks like ive had it in a ponytail but then it flips out weird so i really have no other option then straghtening it. i would wash my hair at night then let it airdry but my hair is to oily to do that because it looks greasy by the end of the school day already. ive been straghtening and blowdrying my hair every morning for about a year and a half, its still pretty healthy, but i just dont want to completely ruin my hair. i just need some advice on how to care for any damage that i have done to my hair and products to keep it from getting damaged in the future. if anyone knows how to treat hair that is greasy at the roots and dry at the tips any advice is greatly appreciated!

condition your hair!!! They have "masks" for hair and its similar to a facial mask. Take care of your hair before you straighten it and what not.

preventing damage is also triming it monthly and chaanging hair styles and it will never be messed up i used to bleach my roots every 10 days and stuff and it never messed up i wold have trim and its great. you use recontructor also it works.

Well, I just posted a question about the japanese hair straightening. If these procedure isn't worth it, then what kind of procedure should i get done to my hair to make it straight. Whenever i straighten my hair, I have to be careful on the weather. Since I live in houston, weather is bi-polar. It might be freezing in the morning, then hot and humid in the afternoon. What would i have to do to my hair to keep it straight the whole day. Btw, my hair hates and kind of moisture when it's straight!!! lmao

I have Japanese hair straightening and i absolutely loveee love love it!! Its a long procedure but it seriously pays off..all i do is shower and brush my hair and let it dry...when its completely dry it looks like i straightened my hair to perfection..i say go for the japanese hair straightening!!! my hair works great in humidity!!

I think if you really want to try go right aead but if you don't like that then go to the store and get a starightener and fix but if you don't trust your self with that then go to the slaon nad get it done I presoally wold go buy a straightener and not even do that japeness straightener

Japanese hair straightening , Yuko system or Thermal Reconditioning will last you 6-9 months depending on the tightness of your curls. It's pretty costly around $500-1500 and procedure takes about 4-9 hours.

I know some people who're happy with the results. If you are the type who's always on the go in a rush, and don't have much time drying your hair and using a flat iron, i think it's well worth it. You can just let your hair air dry and still have a flat out straightened hair, with no effort at all !

If you're not fully convinced with it though, ionic ceramic flat iron works wonders (not the ones sold in drug stores). It costs around $100 up but well worth it. You can find this in beauty supply stores. I have tried one branded CHI and I'm very happy with it. Sometimes I use a dab of Biosilk Hair therapy with it for more shine, smells good too! I used to always have a bad hair day, but after investing on this, I've become a happy camper.

TRY to go to a chi salon its actually based out of Houston, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one. CHI has a great straightening system that's very good for the hair. I am a hair stylist and I'm training to be an educator for Farouk systems who owns chi Its very good for the integrity of the hair.and your hair actually feels better after wards. I don't know about with the straightening, but they are always looking for models too. Another option would be to embrace your curls and use a product called diva curl. its awesome!!! but before you do any chemical service or anything Major to you hair, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! ie: salon, products, are you willing to commit to it and keep up with it? below are some great web sites to find out what you are looking for. on the farouk web site click on locations and that will help you find what you're looking for as far as a place near by go there and ask lots of questions like do they perform the service allot, how much and all of that. book a consultation first you have to be comfortable with the person who does your hair. if your not feeling that person don't do it. Can hair oils help an itchy scalp?

I have a bad itchy scalp. Its been going on and off for a few weeks at a time for about a year now. I dont flake, its just very itchy, but sometimes ill use a dandruff shampoo, but it only helps for like 2-3 days. I dont wash my hair everyday, so I wash it abour 4-5 times a week, since my hair is so dry anyway, I can get away with it, plus its normal.My hair and skin are dry, I use lotion for my skin (DUH!) to keep it mostuirized, so it makes sense to use hair oils for my scalp, but do you think it will help the problem? And also, do you know of any companies that sell hair oils. I know origins does, but its costs like $20! Can using an essential oil work the same?

I just want to do it for my scalp and roots, since thats wear the problem is, so a deep conditioner or hot oil treatment wont really work, since you do that for all your hair, specifically the ends.
