My hair gets greasy every other day after wash. Does the cause for it might be the products i use or should i switch the products or cut down on the products i use? When i wash my hair i use Redken/ color extend shampoo, condicioner Redken for dry/freezy hair. On the dump hair i use high gloss/smoothing hair serum (2-4 drops), than in the morning i use TreSemme straightening gel for hot tools and flat iron it( i do it every morning, GEL-Flat Iron). Sometimes i switch high gloss to another product The Natural source super-shining %26amp; re-constructing hair. I'd like to hear your opinions what might be the cause to make hair greasy, is it the products, too much or switch it to different ones?
My hair gets greasy every other day....?
it's the products, girl! well, it could be your hair type, but it's most definitely all that product!
some tips:
1) when conditioning your hair, put the conditioner into your hands, and DON'T start with your scalp, start massaging it into the hair that hangs, like a ponytail, then, once the conditioner is in there (use a good amount) wring out some of the lather from it, and use THAT to condition your roots and scalp and bangs (if you have them).
I read this in a magazine like 6 years ago, and it's been a savior for me!
2) get a REALLY light leave in conditioner, there's a John Frieda one - i THINK it's called Daily Conditioner - it's in a tall, foggy white spray bottle. It'll leave your hair soft and manageable, without weighing it down.
3) STAY AWAY FROM HAIR SERUMS!!!!!!!!!!! they are like instant grease-ifyers. Tressemme has a fantastic leave in conditioner type, it's a finishing cream. again, i can't remember the exact name, but it's in a little, short, kind of triangular black squishy bottle and it has purple writing on it. it's great on damp AND dry hair for keeping your hair soft and silky, especially after flat-ironing.
4) When you flat-iron your hair, try not to use a GEL, it makes hair thicker and heavier and greasy. you can try Tressemme's heat activated styling spray. It's in a tall black bottle with a dark red spray nozzle (it's actually really cool looking lol). just spray a good amount around your hair, from about an arms-length distance (and closer at those tough-to-straighten spots).
5) try not to play with your hair too much during the day. this causes it to get greasy faster.
6) wearing hats, headbands, and other head paraphernalia causes your hair to get greasy, especially if you already have product in it.
7) as much as you can, STAY AWAY FROM PUTTING PRODUCT ON YOUR ROOTS! that has been the easiest way for me to keep my hair grease free. I can go two even three days without washing my hair and it isn't greasy.
i've also heard (but never tried) that putting a SMALL amount of baby powder on your roots absorbs some of the moisture and the grease. Bumble and Bumble sells a product for such, and they actually sell a brown one for brunettes, a red one for redheads, etc. a little pricey, but my bf's sister uses it and swears by it.
I hope at least SOMETHING in here was helpful, if not to you, to someone else! :) if you take any of my tips, try number 1. about when you condition your hair in the shower. conditioner leaves build-up, which causes your hair to get greasy. but if you just use the lather it's thinner and diluted and lighter, but still leaves your hair silky smooth and frizz free, if that's what it's supposed to do :)
oh, last tip (i promise!)
IF possible (this is something I have JUST been able to embrace at 21 years old), try to embrace your natural hair. One day, when you have nothing to do one day, take a shower, wash, condition, whatever, put in a very very LIGHT leave in conditioner, and watch your hair as it dries, see what it does. If you've been straightening your hair for years, it might react differently now then how it did back then. I used to straighten my hair every day, and one day i woke up really late for work, and all i had time to dry was my bangs (because they get UNRULY when i don't lol) and i swear, that day, EVERYONE at my job was complimenting me on my (what I call "Farrah Fawcet Hair") natural hair. so you never know. give it a whirl one day when you're not working or going to school, on a lazy day.
okay, i think this is long enough. GOOD LUCK! please email me if you have any questions :)

It shouldn't even take that much time to wash it.
My hair gets greasy every other day....?
Genetics play some role - if you have oily skin you likely have an oily scalp. You may be stimulating oil production by using products that are too drying or by washing too often. It sounds strange, but if you can stand to wash your hair less it will naturally regulate the oil production (should decrease). Otherwise, yes, try switching products. If you do not apply products to the scalp, they should not effect the oil production. Also, there are hair powders (or you can use regular face powder) that you can use on your crown/scalp to absorb oil. I have an oily scalp also and find this to be helpful.
